Edwin “Ted” Archer and Susan “Susie” Carolin McCammon

BCGHS Journal Vol 1, No 3, October 2019

Edwin D “Ted” Archer married Susan “Susie” Carolin McCammon on 18 Aug 1890 in Bosque County. A brief examination into this lovely couple raises all kinds of questions, the primary one is how did these two particular people end up in Bosque County; what brought them here?

Ted’s death certificate names his parents, Richard and Sarah (Brunt) Archer. They were English immigrants who arrived in America in the early 1870’s. New York passenger lists indicate that Richard initially came over first with his older son (also named Richard) in 1872. Census records indicate the he was a wheelwright and carpenter by trade.

Richard’s mother, Sarah, came over a year later with Edwin and five of his siblings. What must it have been like for his mother to travel with six small children on a ship from England to Brooklyn, NY, in 1873, in the steerage compartment no less! One can only imagine. Whatever drew this family to Bosque County, one can only surmise. Whatever it was, they were here before 1878, where Richard died and is buried in Kimball Cemetery. Sarah never remarried and remained in Bosque County until her death in 1904. She is buried next to her husband in Kimball Cemetery.
