BCGHS COMMITTEES
Please carefully review the ad hoc committees officially established by the board listed below. If there is one that is of interest or that you have skills and abilities unique to a specific committee, we would ask that you would consider serving. You do not have to be a BCGHS Member to serve on a committee headed by a BCGHS chairperson.
Membership – Duties: Assisting the Chair in identifying the needs of members and recommending the development of services to meet those needs. Recommending means for increasing membership base. Keeping membership informed. Welcoming new members. Recommending ways to acknowledge new members and to encourage participation in BCGS activities.
Marketing/Publicity – Duties: Responsible for the marketing and publicity for the Society, including posting on the Society’s blog and social media platforms under the guidelines of the assigned Chair.
Family History Writing Contest – Duties: Assisting the Chair to establish and modify contest rules as needed. Evaluate, judge, and award annual winners for each age and contest category.
Cemetery Preservation – Duties: Assisting the chair to collect and compile data on Bosque County cemeteries by conducting surveys. Oversee tombstone cleanings during the Annual History Preservation Week.
1890 Project -Duties: Assisting the Chair to collect and compile 1890 Bosque County data from all known recorded sources with the goal in mind of a future BCGS publication
Oral History – Duties: Assist the chair with the following:
- To select appropriate oral history interview candidates and subjects;
- To select transcripts or portions of transcripts, and related historical material, for publication;
- To advise the Board of the format and length of individual interview series and on appropriate issues and subjects for related series of interviews;
- To advise the Board on the appropriate subjects, format, and length of interviews and on the process for conducting oral history interviews;
- To advise the Board on joint programs and activities with state universities, colleges, museums, and other groups conducting oral histories;
- To advise the Board on other aspects of the administration of the oral history program and on the conduct of individual interview projects.
